This past weekend, I spent about $500 at a steakhouse with two other people. We didn’t go crazy, but this experience got me thinking about some of the other stupid things we spend money on. If you stop spending money on the dumb stuff, you can get so much more value out of money.
When it comes to spending your money, you are the only person you should worry about. Don’t waste your money buying things to impress others, thinking that something you buy will make somebody else like you more. You probably shouldn’t be friends if they don’t like you because you’re not wearing or driving something.
Don’t be stupid and spend money on these!
- Dining out at expensive restaurants.
- Bottle service and strippers. I put being an OnlyFans patron in the same category.
- Fitness equipment. If you’re not going to use it, you’re wasting money.
- Gym memberships. 80% of people who have a gym membership don’t use it.
- Workout supplements. You don’t need them if you eat a well-balanced diet and work out hard consistently.
- Muscle-building supplements. I’m talking about TRT or anything like that. These are colossal wastes of money and will damage your body.
- Synthetic vitamins. These are a waste if you’re not absorbing them (aka low-quality synthetic vitamins). Look for whole-food-sourced multivitamins.
- Designer bags. These are not typically of high quality. You’re buying them for the logo.
- Fake leather. Whether shoes, boots, jackets, belts, or otherwise, fake leather sucks.
- Fake watches—I bought a fake Rolex back in the day. Fake makes you look low-class and dumb.
- Tech watches. Stylish men do not wear these.
- Expensive watches. Many amazingly affordable options, such as Timex, Aura, or Seiko, are available.
- Cheap suits. You don’t need to spend thousands of dollars. Get a fantastic suit from SuitSupply for about $500 to $600. Then, spend money getting it tailored.
- Ugly, trendy shoes. Don’t get caught in the hype.
- Trendy clothes equate to wasting money because they’re expensive, and then you won’t be able to wear them very long because they go out of style quickly.
- Expensive jeans. Don’t spend hundreds on your denim. My favorites are from American Eagle and cost around $75.
- Uncomfortable clothing. If you’re not going to wear it, don’t buy it. You need to invest in clothing that feels good and fits properly.
- Uncomfortable shoes. If you get shoes and think you’ll break them in, chances are you won’t. You’ll end up with blisters and a waste of money.
- Shyster, grifter seminars and courses. People push these super expensive seminars online, when you can find what they’re doing for free. Copy what someone’s done rather than buying someone trying to sell you a dream.
- Driving a super expensive car when you’re not in the financial position. Expensive cars have costly repairs and associated costs. Be humble, confident, and self-aware enough in who you are to know that you don’t have to spend money you don’t have.
- Living above your means. Opt for a less expensive alternative to allow you to save, invest, and build up cash reserves. Do not overextend yourself. You don’t need to buy all the new technology, stuff, and furniture to impress somebody.
